Vanguard Masonry is a bricklaying contractor for the main contractors, housebuilders and groundworkers building in and around the city. We have the supervision, capacity and accreditations to deliver brickwork packages properly. Building in a historic city
Inside and close to the walls, Chester’s planners look carefully at materials, and new buildings are expected to sit comfortably alongside red brick, sandstone and the city’s distinctive black-and-white revival architecture. That means tight brick, bond and mortar specifications, sample panels that must be approved before production, and close attention to details such as soldier courses, string courses and reveals.
We build sample panels to the approved specification and blend bricks from several packs as we lay to avoid banding. We set out elevations so coursing lines through at openings and junctions, and we raise buildability questions about feature details at tender stage, not on the scaffold. On restricted city sites we agree deliveries, storage and working hours with the main contractor before we mobilise.
Housing around Chester and Ellesmere Port
Most new homes in the area are being built on the edges of the city and in surrounding towns and villages, including Saltney, Upton, Blacon, Ellesmere Port, Neston, Tarporley and Frodsham. For housebuilders we deliver superstructure brickwork, blockwork and cavity construction in line with NHBC Standards. Each package has a named supervisor, daily site logs and quality checks recorded plot by plot. With 100 bricklayers across the North West and Midlands, we can increase labour when plots are released.
Care, education and commercial
West Cheshire also has a steady flow of care homes, schools and SEND buildings, hotels, and commercial and industrial units, including sites around Ellesmere Port and along the A55 and M56 corridors. On these projects a main contractor usually wants one brickwork package, a consistent gang and a supervisor who attends progress meetings. That’s how we run them, with RAMS, inductions and reporting set up to suit the main contractor’s systems.
Substructure and superstructure
Groundworkers can appoint us for substructure brickwork and blockwork up to DPC as a standalone package, working to the groundworks sequence. Housebuilders can appoint us for the superstructure, or for both, so one bricklaying contractor carries the brickwork from footings to completion.

How we run the package
Once appointed, a named supervisor runs the brickwork package and is your single point of contact. They keep daily site logs, record quality checks and raise any detailing or sequencing issues early, so problems are dealt with before they reach the scaffold. RAMS and inductions are completed before our gangs start.
