Derby is where our East Midlands work begins: from our office in Dunston, Stafford, the A50 links Staffordshire directly to the south side of the city, so Derby sites are a regular run for our teams. Planning for exposed and winter sites
Not every Derbyshire site is on the edge of the city. Schemes towards Belper, Matlock and the Peak District fringe can be higher and more exposed, with more wind-driven rain and earlier frosts. Brickwork on those sites needs protection planned in from the start: covering new work at the end of each day, monitoring temperatures for mortar in cold weather, and sequencing elevations so the most exposed faces aren't left half-built over a weekend. We agree winter working arrangements with the site team before the season starts, so bad weather does as little damage to the programme as possible.
