Timber Frame Brickwork in Staffordshire
Vanguard Masonry is a bricklaying contractor based at Dunston, just south of Stafford by junction 13 of the M6. We build the brick outer skin to timber frame homes for housebuilders and main contractors across Staffordshire, the Midlands and the North West, with 100 bricklayers and a named supervisor on every package.
On a timber frame plot the frame goes up first and the brickwork follows. That changes the job for the bricklayer. The outer leaf has to be built to the frame that is actually there, with ties fixed at the right centres, cavity barriers and trays in the right places, and clear gaps left for the frame to settle. We plan the brickwork around the frame erector’s programme so gangs arrive as plots are ready, not before.

- Movement and settlement gaps left at window heads, sills and eaves

Built to the frame, checked as we go
Ties, trays and gaps are hidden once the wall is up, so we check them while they can still be seen.
Our supervisors record checks on tie spacing, cavity widths, trays and barriers plot by plot, so the site manager has evidence before scaffold comes down. Plots are handed over ready for NHBC or LABC inspection, and any issue is put right while the gang is still on the plot.
From Dunston we reach timber frame sites across Stafford, Cannock, Stoke-on-Trent, Lichfield and the rest of Staffordshire quickly along the M6, A34 and A51.
Staffordshire is our core area, but it is not the limit. We also cover the wider West and East Midlands, Cheshire and the North West, with the same supervision and paperwork on every site.
Five steps on every package
The same process runs on every timber frame site we take on.
- Pre-start review: drawings, specification, programme and access checked before we start.
- Mobilisation: gangs, supervisor, RAMS and materials planned to the programme.
- Plot delivery: work released and built in the agreed sequence.
- Quality checks: recorded checks as the work goes up, not only at the end.
- Clean handover: work handed over tidy and ready for the next trade or for inspection.
Every package can be priced three ways: labour only; labour, mortar, sundries and fuel; or full supply and fit. Our bricklayers hold CSCS cards, every package has a named supervisor and RAMS, and we hold Constructionline Gold and CHAS Advanced.

Yes. We can build the brickwork and blockwork up to DPC as well as the outer skin above, so one bricklaying contractor covers the plot from foundations to eaves.
